Housekeeping:
I have a lil poem out in Tinderbox, an online publication that I’ve loved forever.
What I read this week:
Quotations:
For me, being trans is like writing: it’s vocational and essential. Both give purpose to my survival.
i’ve chosen to believe that suffering pins me to the centre of the universe like a dead butterfly displayed on corkboard.
My novels are closer to portraits than extrapolations: almost everything that can be found inside them has already happened, or is already happening, to somebody somewhere. I’m not creative enough to come up with new horrors myself, or maybe I would be writing fantasy or sci-fi.
Fearful, I transform the world into my own suffering. Ineffectual, I superimpose myself on the bigness of this injustice.
My entire body of work is an homage to my home state. Everything I create is saturated with it, the sunshine and the rot and the thunder thumping hard as a bass drum in my chest. I’ve always said that Florida is embedded in my work because it lives inside me. How could it not? I was born here, grew up here, loved and cried and ached here.

And, last but not least:
Please look at my friend’s cat, Delilah, whom I’ve become very good friends with.
