The cover letter post was terrific. Can I suggest a post on how incredibly crucial it is to read a journal's submission guidelines. Perhaps you could include some hints related to parsing those guidelines. As as editor, submissions from writers that didn't bother to read them drive me nuts. And most of the time the sub gets declined without it even being read.

Thank you so much for your posts. They are so insightful! I'm applying to MFAs this fall and I'm curious if you could share your experience applying/researching MFAs and any tips or advice you might have.

Warmly,

Tyler

p.s. Your poetry is lovely! I really enjoyed your work in Salamander.

Do you have any thoughts or advice for those who would like to try to have their work published, but lack formal education in creative writing?

Also, after reading your post about cover letters, I’m wondering how looked down upon it is to submit without having this / prior publications.

I assume that would depend on the journal, so are there any you’d recommend for emerging writers, specifically in poetry?

Hi Despy! Not so much about writing, but I love your collages where you combine art and your writing. I would love to make things like that, but I'm not quite sure how to go about it--do you have to find like free-use photos and art? Where do you find the pictures and images you like to use?

any advice on starting a literary publication? the ins-and-outs of making a meaningful and functional space, especially since new lit mags seem to pop up all the time

Thank you so much for this newsletter! As a new & anxious submitter, it's been a great help. I have a handful of miscellaneous questions, answers to any or all of which would be wonderful:

- Are replies to rejections (thanks again, looking forward to the next reading period, etc) a norm/a nice gesture/an annoyance?

- If a poem is accepted that has since been revised, would you ever reply (or be glad, as an editor, to have a poet reply) with a revision for the editor's consideration? It definitely seems like the Maximum Professional Integrity approach is to stand by whatever one submitted, but one also wishes to give a poem's best self its best chance.

- If there was a recording—say, on YouTube—of an otherwise-unpublished poem being read aloud, is that worth mentioning in a cover letter/reason enough to consider the piece a reprint/just not a big deal? Are there circumstances that would change the answer?

Thanks again!
